Application Management Services - IT Infrastructure Library

IT Infrastructure LibraryIT Infrastructure Library

In the last years, the ITIL (IT Infrastructure) standard is mentioned more and more frequently in regard to savings potential or cost-effective and target-oriented developments in information technology. ITIL stands for "IT Infrastructure Library". It plays no role whether these considerations apply to Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) or to Enterprise Information Management (EIM).

The IT infrastructure library is a collection of model examples for IT service management and is considered a de facto standard for the planning and implementation of service processes. Since the publishing of the first sections of this library in 1989, on behalf of the British government, ITIL has matured to become a global standard that is used by computer centres, IT service providers and EDP departments.

ITIL now also comprises process recommendations on ten areas including configuration, change- and service level management. ITIL is based on well-established solutions ("Best Practices"). These manuals only describe what needs to be done (what one must consider, which risks must be taken into account etc.).

However, the “How to” does not form part of ITIL but is dependent on the individual technical and organizational conditions. CENIT uses this uniform standard for all its Application Management Services (AMS) projects.
